Family Promise of Grays Harbor has an immediate need for a part-time Family Support Coordinator. Family Promise of Grays Harbor provides opportunities for families in our diverse community to achieve self-sufficiency by offering a community-based shelter program designed to bridge homelessness and sustainable independence. The Family Support Coordinator is responsible for providing case management and other support services to families with children experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity.

Therefore, the position description is designed to outline primary duties, qualifications, and job scope, but not limit the incumbent nor the organization to just the work identified. It is our expectation that each employee will offer their services whenever/wherever necessary to ensure the success of our endeavors.

Responsibilities Job duties and responsibilities are as assigned by the Executive Director and may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts interviews and intakes with potential Guest families, including needs assessment and family history.

  • Supports Guest families in developing individual and family case management plans including steps and time frames for completing goals and reviews with families on regular basis; makes necessary adjustments to case management plans while holding families accountable for their actions, responding with firmness, compassion, and kindness.

  • Identifies and connects families with appropriate community resources and services.

  • Coordinates Guest exit process to include sustainable housing plan and follow-up support.

  • Maintains accurate records of all initial contacts, intakes, and Guests served including timely and thorough case notes. Maintains waitlist when the shelter program is at capacity.

  • Administrative tasks such as data input, answering phones, directing calls appropriately, and light cleaning duties.

  • Oversees Guests’ budgets and savings plan, meal planning, Day Center chores, and Household check-ins. Ensures families are adhering to agreed-upon guidelines.

  • Schedules and facilitates financial literacy/budgeting, employment search, and landlord tenancy education for Guests and community members.

  • Meets regularly with the Executive Director to review Guests’ progress toward meeting their goals.

  • Assists with donations, moving furniture, and maintaining supply distribution.

  • Drives Family Promise Van to transport families, run errands, pick up donations, and off-site meetings.

  • Maintains confidentiality of staff, Guests, volunteers, and all program participants.

  • Represents Family Promise of Grays Harbor and its constituents positively within the community.

  • Assists with other shelter and program operations as needed.


  • Experience with direct service in a non-profit environment; experience working with the unhoused community is desired

  • AA in Human Services or related field preferred

  • Knowledge of local community resources, agencies, and organizations

  • Self-motivated team player who can interact productively and positively with others, but also work independently

  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, self-starter, and self-directed work habits

  • Commitment to the welfare and well-being of children and families

  • Ability to foster relationships with diverse faith traditions and people with diverse backgrounds

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills

  • Ability to communicate well with all ages, written and orally

  • Strong computer proficiency and familiarity with Google and Microsoft Office products

  • Ability to organize and keep accurate records

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., drive a 15-passenger van, and navigate stairs with good visual acuity

  • Valid Driver’s License for at least 3 years with a clean driving record

  • Personal vehicle or access to independent transportation

Working Conditions

Part-time, hourly non-exempt position for 20 hours per week. Up to 10 additional hours per week may be required infrequently to meet the needs of our families and program operations. Occasional early morning, weekend, evening, and on-call hours may be required as part of this position. In-person attendance is required; this is not a remote position. Most hours will be worked onsite at The Day Center. This position reports to the Executive Director. The rate of pay is commensurate with experience with a review and possible pay increase after 90 days.
