Prevention and Diversion
With more than 40% of Americans a $400 expense away from financial distress, the threat of crisis looms closely for too many families.
We are there when a family’s homelessness is imminent, and we work with families to avoid the trauma of losing their housing.

Family Promise of Grays Harbor’s “A Future Begins at Home” program offers a variety of strategies to ensure families do not fall into the cycle of housing instability that can devastate and alter the course of children and parents’ lives. These include administering formal prevention and diversion programs providing rental assistance, landlord mediation, and community-based approaches to keep families housed. In some cases, we can prevent a family from needing emergency shelter by providing services to help them find another housing solution.

By intervening early and providing targeted assistance, we can help families on the brink of homelessness maintain their housing stability and divert them from entering the cycle of homelessness altogether.

Family Promise of Grays Harbor has been awarded a very limited amount of funds to assist families with eviction prevention and shelter diversion. Qualified families at imminent risk of homelessness may receive one-time financial services and case management to prevent the loss of home and stabilize current household situation or to assist with utilities or move in costs.
We do this through:

-
Case management and community support
-
Payments for rent in arrears
-
Utility support
-
Landlord mediation and Housing location
-
Transportation assistance – gas cards and bus passes
Keeping families out of shelter is good public policy and good fiscal policy. When families have lost housing and reach out to Family Promise, we provide alternatives to shelter, including:

-
Temporary hotel/motel stays
-
Financial assistance for rental applications and security deposits
-
Landlord mediation and housing location
-
Creative solutions leveraging a family’s strengths
